West Ham United are reportedly keen on Jack Wilshere.
According to the Daily Star, West Ham United are ready to improve on Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere’s £120,000-a-week contract in order to lure him to the London Stadium.
The Hammers are far from safe in the Premier League right now, having slipped back to just two points clear of the relegation zone, and a drop back into the Championship is still a huge possibility.
Whilst fans are protesting against the clubs owners David Gold and David Sullivan, the club appear to be lining up summer transfer targets – and Wilshere appears to be one of them.
It’s claimed that Arsenal want Wilshere to take a cut from his £120,000-a-week wages, but West Ham – and Everton – are ready to offer him even more money in an attempt to secure his signature.
Wilshere has spent the last 17 years with Arsenal having joined from Luton Town way back in 2001, and was touted for stardom from a young age having come up through the Gunners ranks.
However, injuries and competition for places have resulted in Wilshere being in and out of the Arsenal team, and his contract will expire at the end of the season.
Wilshere may now move on for free, and a move to West Ham – the club he supported as a boy – may be tempting, whilst it would also enable him to stay in London.
However, much will ultimately depend on West Ham’s Premier League status, as they could yet find themselves in the Championship – and Wilshere surely wouldn’t want that, and the chances of a deal in excess of £120,000-a-week being on the table would dramatically decrease too.
