West Ham United have been in talks to sign the Paris Saint-Germain ace over the past couple of weeks.
According to a report from Sky Sports, West Ham have re-opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain star Javier Pastore, after the two parties had reached an impasse last week regarding the Argentine’s wage demands.
PSG were willing to sell the 28-year-old to the Hammers for €20 million (£17.5 million), according to Sky Sports, but his £190,000 per week wage demands proved to be a stumbling block to his potential switch to the London Stadium.
Sky Sports now claim that West Ham have re-opened discussions with Pastore in the hope of bringing him to east London this summer, but some kind of compromise will still need to be reached regarding his salary demands.
Good signing for the Hammers?
If Manuel Pellegrini does manage to bring the PSG man to the London Stadium this summer, for just £17.5 million, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the club.
Pastore joined the French giants from Palermo in the summer of 2011, and has gone on to chalk up an impressive 45 goals and 62 assists in 269 appearances in all competitions.
The Argentina international possesses exceptional technical ability, and would help add a certain level of potency to West Ham’s play in the final third.
Pastore’s experience of playing at the very highest level for such a sustained period of time with PSG would also surely be a huge asset to the Hammers.
Whilst he will definitely have to accept a reduced wage to join West Ham, the lure of playing in the Premier League could be enough to sway his thinking.
And what a signing he would be for Pellegrini’s side.
