West Ham United are reportedly pursuing Koln striker Anthony Modeste.
Anthony Modeste
According to The Mirror, West Ham United are preparing a new summer move to land Koln striker Anthony Modeste after his remarkable season in front of goal.
The Hammers are widely expected to spend heavily on a new striker this summer, having missed out on a host of target last summer, leaving them to land Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri on loan.
Neither of them fit the bill, and with Andy Carroll still struggling to put an injury-free season together, Slaven Bilic – or whoever is in charge at the London Stadium next season – will need a new goalscorer.
Now, The Mirror report that West Ham are plotting a summer move to sign Koln attacker Anthony Modeste, having witness him enjoy a remarkable season in Germany.
Some may remember Modeste, 28, from his days in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers, where he failed to score in nine games, but he has enjoyed greater success elsewhere.
The Frenchman hit 17 goals in 38 games for Bastia and 23 goals in 62 games for Hoffenheim before joining Koln in 2015 – and he hasn’t looked back since.
Koln’s Anthony Modeste
After 18 goals in 36 appearances last term, Modeste has taken German football by storm this season, smashing an impressive 24 goals in 29 games for Koln, with only Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring more Bundesliga goals this term.
Now, West Ham are believed to be keen on offering Modeste a return to England, viewing him as a potential focal point of their attack thanks to his combination of size, speed, strength, aerial ability and superb finishing.
Koln won’t sell their star man without a fight though, and West Ham may be forced to spend big if they want to bring Modeste back to the Premier League at the end of the season.
