West Ham are reportedly plotting a move to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, with the England international back on the Irons’ radar heading into the final week of the transfer window.
According to the Sun, the east London side are scheming a move to sign the 22-year-old talent from their capital rivals, with David Moyes looking for a midfielder to add some extra pace and power after a disastrous start to the season that has seen the Hammers lose their opening three games of the campaign.
With reports suggesting that Gallagher could be available for as little as £35m, it makes sense why West Ham are now back in the race to sign the Chelsea sensation, though the Premier League side do face some strong competition for the youngster in the form of Crystal Palace and reportedly Newcastle United.
The Eagles, in particular, could prove to be a hard club to take on for West Ham given how influential the midfielder was under Patrick Vieira last season in the Chelsea star’s season-long loan move at Selhurst Park, yet European football at the London Stadium could be an enticing opportunity for Gallagher.
Indeed, Gallagher headed into the summer as one of the Premier League’s most in-demand players, and whilst injury to N’Golo Kante means that the midfielder is still unlikely to leave Stamford Bridge in the coming days, the injection of new interest from the likes of West Ham could hint that a deal is possible.
Moreover, with West Ham already signing one player from Chelsea this window in Emerson Palmieri, there’s a good chance that the Irons could return to their west London rivals with an audacious attempt to bring Gallagher to the other side of the English capital.
West Ham signing Gallagher would be another major sign of intent

West Ham have made huge strides under Moyes from a struggling Premier League side to one that could now be a regular for European football, and whilst the Hammers’ start to the season has been a bad one, signing Gallagher could restore a lot of faith in the fanbase for the new campaign.
After all, the midfielder is one of the most sought-after in the country and would be an incredible partner for Declan Rice, and for West Ham, signing Gallagher ahead of their English rivals is a major sign of ambition and intent from the club, who could enjoy a brilliant season if they manage to bring the Chelsea talent in.
