West Ham United are reportedly considering a January bid for Olivier Giroud as they also weigh up a decision on Andy Carroll’s future.

West Ham are considering making a January bid for Olivier Giroud as the club’s owners also look to make a decision on Andy Carroll’s future at the London Stadium, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.

Both strikers are set to be out of contract next summer. West Ham are weighing up taking up a two-year option in Carroll’s deal in the hope that they can get a fee for the 29-year-old, the Mirror reports.

But their decision on Carroll may perhaps be made based on how successful they prove to be in their pursuit of Giroud. The Mirror suggests that the Hammers made an ambitious bid for the Frenchman before his move to Chelsea and are now back in the running ahead of the January transfer window.

Out with the old, in with the new?

At 32, Giroud – who earns £120,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is no youngster but it would be no surprise if most West Ham fans were urging Manuel Pellegrini to pursue the deals which see the Blues striker arrive and Carroll leave.

Unfortunately, Carroll has been unable to shake off the injury-prone tag during his time with the Irons, and the moments of undeniable quality have been too few and far between.

Giroud is yet to score this season, but he has provided four assists for Chelsea and reached double figures for Premier League goals in five seasons during his time with Arsenal. He would seemingly be a much more reliable option when it comes to his fitness also.

It appears to be the right time to let Carroll go – even if that does mean that they do miss out on a fee – and if they can get Giroud in, it could arguably be a fantastic piece of business from West Ham.
