West Ham United are planning to make a second offer worth £8 million for Slavia Prague winger Lukas Masopust, according to the Sun (9 August, page 60).
If that name is a little familiar, there is a reason why.
Masopust was one of the best players on the pitch as the Czech Republic consigned England to their first defeat in a qualification game for ten years in late-2019, causing Danny Rose no end of problems down the right hand side.
But the 27-year-old’s performances at club level have been even more impressive.
With seven goals and five assists, Masopust played a massive role as Slavia Prague won the Czech league title again this season with speculation emerging that he could follow Tomas Soucek to the London Stadium this summer.
The Sun reports that West Ham have had an initial £5 million offer rejected for Soucek’s former midfield partner.

David Moyes and co will be hoping that a new bid, worth £8 million, is enough to seal the deal for an out-and-out, old-school winger who will offer something different to the left-footed Andriy Yarmolenko.
Speaking to eFotbal last week, Masopust’s agent Pawel Paska admitted that Moyes himself had been in contact regarding a deal for the highly-rated wideman.
“(Moyes) asked me about (Roma striker) Patrik Schick, Lukas Masopust, but also about some other players. He wanted to know what Patrik looked like at the moment, he was also interested in Lukas,” Paska says.
“I said that it would be good for him (Masopust) and me (to go to West Ham). I’m glad I opened the door. Lukas Masopust would deserve a transfer and I would very much like it. He’s a great football player and a great boy.”
