West Ham United offered £9 million for Cyle Larin during the January transfer window and the striker is keen to leave Bestikas at the end of this season, as reported by Sabah.
If you’re planning to make a list of all the strikers West Ham were linked with in the winter, you’d better prepare yourself for a nasty case of writer’s cramp.
The eventual number was huge – from Abdallah Sima to Olivier Giroud, Youssef En-Nesyri to Alassane Plea, and Adam Hlozek to Josh King.
And now we can add a Canada international to the conversation.
According to Sabah, West Ham made a £9 million bid for Larin two months ago.
The former Orlando City star, who was tipped for big things by 2007 Ballon D’Or winner Kaka during their time together in the MLS, is in the midst of his finest European campaign, scoring 16 times for title-chasing Besiktas.
“A British team made an official offer to Besiktas. President Ahmet Nur Cebi did not accept this. We have a goal to win the league,” explains Yilmaz Canpolat, close associate of Cebi, to Radyospor, via Milliyet.
At the time we assumed he was referring to West Bromwich Albion, with the Baggies also trying and failing to sign Larin during the January window.
But perhaps it was West Ham who came closest to landing the 31-cap, Ontario-born hitman?
Sabah adds the Hammers are preparing to make a new approach for Larin in the summer.
And the 25-year-old is keen to leave Besiktas for a new challenge in one of Europe’s major leagues, with the Istanbul giants prepared to accept offers in the region of £14 million.
