Spanish newspaper AS claim West Ham have opened talks to sign Borja Iglesias from Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias. The Spaniard has been in superb form this season, scoring 19 goals in his 51 appearances for Betis.

Iglesias, 29, has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years. But the uncapped Spaniard is yet to leave Spain – after spells with Betis, Celta Vigo, Espanyol and Zaragoza. He has a contract until 2026.

West Ham are likely to be after a striker this summer. Michail Antonio remains first choice but West Ham’s no.9 now 32 and plagued by injury at times, the Hammers cannot expect him to play 50 games a season.

David Moyes has seen his side qualify for the Europa Conference League, meaning there will be plenty of football. Another striker is crucial and Iglesias has been targeted. Betis bought him in 2019 for £26million.

West Ham have opened talks to sign Iglesias: Is he the ideal addition?

Not the quickest, but incredibly strong and superb in the air, Iglesias fits the kind of striker Moyes wants at West Ham. Antonio has been crucial to his side’s identity since Moyes returned. They need another powerful striker.

Youssef En-Nesyri has been a target in the past. But the Moroccan is likely to be out of West Ham’s price range. With Iglesias turning 30 in January, he might be slightly more achievable in the coming months. Ideal.

If West Ham are told to pay anything north of £30million then they should forget it. Iglesias is a risk because he has never left Spain. He has shown he can do it in Europe, scoring four goals in the Europa League during 21-22.

TransferMarkt claim he is represented by the same agency that looks after Hammers ace Pablo Fornals.
