West Ham United are reportedly keen on Lyon defender Marcelo.
According to Lyon-based newspaper Le Progres, West Ham United are offering to double Lyon defender Marcelo’s wages this summer in order to lure him to East London.
The Hammers enjoyed a strong start to the summer transfer window by landing Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop and Ryan Fredericks, and have now burst into life again by signing Fabian Balbuena, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson.
New manager Manuel Pellegrini is being backed with new signings, and he appears to be in the market for one more centre back yet, with a host of names suggested.
Lyon defender Marcelo has become one of the more recent names suggested for a move to the London Stadium, and Le Progres report that West Ham are offering to double his wages in a bid to tempt him into a move.
It’s unclear just how much Marcelo earns and is being offered, but it’s suggested that he’s now considering a move given the money on offer and the fact that he is 31.
The Brazilian centre back stands at 6ft 3in tall and impressed for Lyon following a move from Besiktas last summer, racking up 49 appearances and five goals in all competitions last season.
Formerly of Wisla Krakow, PSV Eindhoven, Hannover and Besiktas, Marcelo would bring experience to the West Ham defence, though they should be wary of spending too much fo a player entering the latter stages of his career.
With Lyon already looking for a defender after selling Mouctar Diakhaby to Valencia, they may not be too keen on losing Marcelo too – but the defender himself may well fancy a move to West Ham given the money allegedly on the table.
