West Ham United were reportedly offered the chance to sign Andre Schurrle from Borussia Dortmund just before deadline day.

According to a report from The Sun, Borussia Dortmund reached out to West Ham as transfer deadline day approached in an attempt to send Andre Schurrle back to the Premier League – but the Hammers missed out on the chance.

Schurrle has endured a fairly miserable spell at the Westfalenstadion, making just 15 Bundesliga appearances for the side since joining in 2016, with just eight starts coming in that time.

The Sun reports that the Hammers were contacted about a deal that would have seen the World Cup winner return to England two years after he left Chelsea.

According to The Sun, Dortmund offered West Ham the chance to sign the forward on loan with an obligation to make the move permanent at a later stage for £26 million – and the player himself was keen on a return to the Premier League.

It is not clear what led to the deal not taking place, but it may well leave the Hammers supporters extremely disappointed as Schurrle is arguably a tremendous player, and would have certainly made Slaven Bilic’s side look a lot more threatening going forward.

He did well for Chelsea considering that he was more of a fringe player during his time at Stamford Bridge, scoring 11 Premier League goals in 44 games, and that statistic quickly becomes a lot more impressive when you consider that he started just 20 times in the top flight for the Blues – but it seems that West Ham let the opportunity pass them by on this occasion.
