West Ham United have offered more than €15 million (around £13.6m) for the Club Brugge midfielder Hans Vanaken, according to HLN.
The Belgian website claims Vanaken is a ‘top priority’ for the West Ham manager David Moyes, who sees the 28-year-old as the ‘dream midfield reinforcement’.
But it is said that the bid is not enough to tempt Brugge, citing the recent transfer of Jonathan David – who moved from Gent to Lille for more than double what West Ham have reportedly offered the Pro League champions – as a factor.
And Vanaken could now be offered a new contract in Belgium, according to HLN, despite his existing deal having four years left to run.
It is suggested that any West Ham move could hinge on Vanaken’s desire to join the Hammers, with the website noting their close encounter with the Premier League’s bottom three last season and the Belgian’s happiness where he is.
And it concludes that West Ham’s chances of getting the player are therefore ‘small’.
Moyes has yet to add to his senior options since the end of last term, although it is claimed that a deal for the Czech right-back Vladimir Coufal is close.
