According to a report by The Telegraph, Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence is now on West Ham United’s radar.
West Ham could do with a new right-back, behind Vladimir Coufal there isn’t much depth, and amid reports the Czech international isn’t happy with his latest contract offer, there could be interest in him this summer.
Spence is proven at Championship level, and as we’ve seen in recent years, the gap between the second-tier and the Premier League is shrinking, with players such as James Maddison, Ollie Watkins and Jarrod Bowen becoming stars in the top-flight after years of impressing in the Championship.
Spence is certainly an interesting talent, he’s previously been coveted by Spurs after reportedly impressing Jose Mourinho in an FA Cup display, and you don’t catch the eye of the former Real Madrid manager unless you’ve got something about you.
At the age of just 20, Spence has plenty of room to improve, and if West Ham can land him this summer they could have another fantastic full-back on their hands.
Whether or not the Hammers formalise a move for Spence remains to be seen, but he’s certainly a player they’re aware of, and it seems as though this is one they could look into.
