According to The Sunday Mirror (04/10, p73), West Ham United are now leading the chase for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.
It’s claimed that West Ham are ‘doubling their efforts’ to sign Tah having seen their move for Burnley defender James Tarkowski hit a dead end.
The German is West Ham’s top alternative, with a belief that he will be available for £25million – half the price of Tarkowski.
Tah allegedly fits into David Moyes’ budget, and is the physically-robust defender Moyes wants to bolster his defence.
Tah, 24, first made his name with Hamburg before heading to Leverkusen in 2015, where he has been a first-team regular ever since.
With almost 200 appearances to his name, Tah is a proven player who still has room to develop at 24, and that’s what West Ham are seeking.

The 6ft 5in giant also has 10 caps for Germany, meaning he would be arriving at West Ham with real pedigree and the quality to make an impact.
West Ham have now kept two Premier League clean sheets in a row, but a deadline day deal for Tah would surely make them even more solid at the back, whilst coming much cheaper than Tarkowski.
