RB Leipzig defender Matthew Bondswell is heading back to England with a medical planned at West Ham United, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Four weeks after the Hammers announced the arrival of Denmark U21 international Frederik Alves Ibsen, January signing number two is on his way.

But rather than the prolific centre-forward David Moyes is so publicly demanding, the West Ham boss will have to make do – at least for the time being – with one of the most highly rated young Englishmen in the game.

18-year-old Bondswell left Nottingham Forest for RB Leipzig in 2018.

And, while he never managed to force his way into Julian Nagelsmann’s starting XI because of a treasure trove of defensive riches at the Red Bull Arena, Bondswell could still be one hell of a coup for a West Ham side famed for giving youth a chance.

The Mail believes the England U18 ace will fly in for talks and undergo a medical with the Premier League high-flyers, who are in the midst of their best start to a season since 1985/86.

The report believes Bondswell will be tasked with providing competition for Aaron Cresswell at left-back, with Arthur Masuaku sidelined with injury.

That would allow the right-footed Ben Johnson to switch across to his favoured flank.
