According to O Jogo, West Ham United could battle Inter Milan, Napoli and Roma for the signature of Sporting midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia – though he won’t be available for less than €30million (£26million).

The Hammers spent much of January searching for a new midfielder, and whilst they did bring in Joao Mario on loan from Inter Milan, a more defensive option may be wanted this summer.

It’s unclear who will be in charge of transfers for West Ham this summer, but they are now being linked with a big move for Sporting midfielder Rodrigo Battagalia.

The 26-year-old joined Sporting from Portuguese rivals Braga last summer, and he has impressed under Jorge Jesus, even if he hasn’t started entirely consistently this term.

A strong and hard-working holding midfielder, Battaglia is now attracting interest, and Portuguese newspaper O Jogo report that West Ham are keen to land the Argentinian ace.

However, it’s noted that Italian giants Inter Milan, Napoli and Roma are all interested in signing Battaglia this summer, whilst Sporting will demand upwards of €30million (£26million) for the midfielder’s signature.

West Ham will therefore have to fight a number of huge clubs to sign Battaglia, whilst they would also need to break their club-record transfer fee on the midfielder, spending beyond the £25million they spent on Marko Arnautovic last summer – and it remains to be seen Whether West Ham agree that deal.
