West Ham will reportedly miss out on the signing of Ludovic Ajorque to Hertha Berlin hours after reports emerged that the Irons are close to agreeing a deal for Chelsea attacker Armando Broja.
According to Kicker via GGFN, the Strasbourg star is in Berlin to complete a move to the Bundesliga side, however, Hertha must first sell some players before they can sign Ajorque, who was a reportedly target for West Ham in the January transfer window.
As per Kicker, Krzysztof Piatek and Davie Selke are likely to leave Hertha in the coming days, freeing up space in the squad and on the wage bill for the German side to sign Ajorque. Though whilst West Ham are interested in the Frenchman, the Hammers seem to already have an alternative target wrapped up.
Reports broke earlier today that West Ham are close to signing Broja from Chelsea, with the Irons pushing towards a £30m deal for the Albanian international in what could be the east London’s solution to their striking problems, with Michail Antonio the club’s only reliable option in the position.
The Jamaican international has been the unusual success story for the Hammers as their leading man in attack, yet Broja could finally be the answer after so many tried and failed experiments for David Moyes’ side, yet Ajorque won’t be that player, it appears.
Whilst the Strasbourg striker bagged more than double what Broja hit last season, West Ham have seemingly gone for the younger, Premier League-proven option, with supporters no doubt more excited about the 20-year-old attacking signing than Ajorque, who now looks set for Hertha.
West Ham choosing Broja over Hertha signing Ajorque is sensible
Ajorque looked prime for a Premier League move after an incredible year in Ligue 1, but with West Ham looking to sign Broja and Hertha making big moves to land the Frenchman, it appears that both clubs are ending up with sold strikers come the end of this week.
Whilst West Ham signing Broja is an exciting move, Ajorque would have been a solid option given that the attacker is in the prime of his career, but for Hertha, they might finally be landing a player who can help the fallen Bundesliga giant back onto their feet.
