According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United have now made first contact with Wigan Athletic in an attempt to sign Cedric Kipre.

Wigan are facing having to offload a number of first-team players to ease their financial issues, with administration looming for them.

Kipre is one player attracting admiring glances. The Daily Star reported earlier this month that West Ham were keen to bring him to the London Stadium.

Now, it’s claimed that West Ham have made a first approach to Wigan as they look to get Kipre signed up ahead of competition from Watford.

The 23-year-old is even wanted in Germany, with his displays at Wigan seemingly catching eye over the last two years.

Formerly of Leicester City, Kipre joined Wigan from Motherwell in 2018. A giant centre back with outstanding aerial presence, Kipre still has plenty of untapped potential.

Born in France but able to play for the Ivory Coast, Kipre may feel a Premier League move can enhance his international hopes – and David Moyes has shown a willingness to bring Championship talent to West Ham.

He signed Jordan Hugill from Preston North End in 2018, and then Jarrod Bowen from Hull City earlier this season.

Kipre could be the next addition, adding real competition to the likes of Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna, with Fabian Balbuena seemingly not fancied by Moyes.
