West Ham United have reportedly asked Arsenal about Lucas Perez’s availability this summer.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side have enjoyed a terrific window thus far. The Hammers have arguably done some inspired business, including getting deals done for the likes of Felipe Anderson and former Gunners star Jack Wilshere.
Perez has endured a difficult time since moving to the Emirates in 2016. According to BBC Sport, he arrived for £17.1 million, but has only hit the back of the net once in the top flight. He spent the entirety of last term on loan with Deportivo La Coruna, but once again, failed to make a huge impact at his old club.
The Mail adds that the 29-year-old has been in talks with Sporting. It is not clear how serious West Ham are about getting the Spaniard in this summer, but it does appear to be something of a gamble to pursue a deal.
His career record is not terrible, but he has reached double figures for league goals in a single season just once since 2010. And with Pellegrini already boasting players such as Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez in his striker ranks, West Ham perhaps need to be looking at a player who is a seriously lethal finisher if they want to move up another level.
