West Ham have reportedly made a €20m (£17m) bid for Stade Rennais defender Nayef Aguerd.

According to journalist Ignazio Genuardi via GFFN, the Hammers have made a hefty offer for the Ligue 1 centre-back. However, West Ham’s £17m bid was rejected by Rennes. David Moyes is keen to sign a defender this summer.

As per Ignazio Genuardi, West Ham are also in advanced talks with AFC Fiorentina for star defender Nikola Milenkovic.

However, the Irons want to make more than just one centre-back signing this summer.

The Irons have made just two signings in the window. And with the east London side competing in the UEFA Europa League this season, squad depth will be key if Moyes’ side are to succeed in both Europe and the Premier League.

Indeed, Aguerd would be a solid addition to the defence. The Moroccan international only joined Rennes last season, but the 25-year-old has firmly established himself as an important figure for both club and country.

Former Bayern Munich star Medhi Benatia admitted to Bein Sports that he believes Aguerd is one of the most ‘influential’ figures in the current Morocco squad.

But with Rennes rejecting a sizeable offer of £17m for Aguerd, it might take some financial effort for West Ham to sign the former Dijon defender.
