Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that West Ham want to sign Cagliari striker Giovanni Simeone, viewing him as a replacement for Haller.
The 25-year-old is the son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, and has notched five goals in 16 games for Cagliari this season.
Leeds United tried to sign Simeone back in October, but Cagliari president Tommaso Guilini told TMW that there simply wasn’t enough time to replace them.
West Ham will now hope to succeed where Leeds failed by signing the Argentinian this month, and Simone Zaza could just be the man to make the difference.
You may be confused here, as Zaza was a rather infamous West Ham flop back in the 2016-17 season, but the Italian striker could head to Cagliari, freeing up Simeone to move.
Simeone is just one of a number of strikers being linked with West Ham right now, but they seem to have a better chance of doing a deal now than Leeds did just three months ago.
