According to a report from Portuguese media outlet O Jogo, West Ham are lining up a summer swoop for Sporting Lisbon ace Rodrigo Battaglia.

The Hammers have endured a troublesome Premier League campaign this season, and currently sit in 14th spot in the table, just five points clear of the drop zone.

If they do manage to stay up this term, the summer transfer window will be a vitally important one for the east London outfit, if they are to build a squad capable of making a sustained push for the European spots next season.

David Moyes has bemoaned the lack of balance currently present amongst his West Ham squad, and the addition of another central midfielder is likely to feature highly on the Scot’s agenda at the end of the season.

O Jogo claim that Moyes has identified Battaglia as the ideal addition to his squad.

The 26-year-old is an orthodox central midfielder by trade, and possesses energy in abundance.

Battaglia is a tenacious player, and possesses all of the attributes required to be a success in the Premier League.

He is valued at £5.85 million, according to Transfer Markt, and that would represent excellent value in today’s ludicrously inflated transfer market.
