According to Own Goal Nigeria, West Ham are leading the race to sign KRC Genk striker Paul Onuachu, who Arsenal are also tracking.

What’s the story?

Well, the 10-cap Nigeria international is a man in demand.

After a stunning 2020/21 season, in which he scored 35 goals in 41 appearances, that should come as no surprise.

Onuachu also provided five assists, meaning he registered 40 goal involvements in 41 appearances.

Now, it seems as if West Ham are winning the race for his signature.

That is despite the fact his agent wants him to join Arsenal.

The 6ft 7in powerhouse is a big Gunners fan, and Mikel Arteta’s side are believed to be interested in his services.

Own Goal Nigeria believe KRC Genk want €20m (£17.2m) for Onuachu, with €15m (£12.9m) of that upfront and €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons.

However, West Ham see his value as something closer to €10m (£8.6m) rising to €15m (£12.9m) with add-ons.

Own Goal Nigeria believe the Irons will submit a bid soon.

Whatever happens, West Ham need a striker

Whoever West Ham sign this summer, they simply have to get a striker.

David Moyes leads the east Londoners into the 2021/22 season knowing the games will come thick and fast, with Europa League football to come.

As a result, the Hammers simply cannot rely on Michail Antonio, and his troublesome hamstrings, to play every week.

In Onuachu, Moyes seems to have found a frontman who’s perfect for the Premier League.

The 27-year-old is an impressive physical specimen, who bullied defenders in the air last season.

Hopefully, West Ham can move this one over the line soon, so Onuachu can get a proper pre-season under his belt.
