West Ham United are attempting to land Gonzalo Higuain.
According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, West Ham united have registered their interest in signing Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain in a shock move.
Higuain, 31, joined Juventus in a huge deal worth around £75million (BBC) in 2016, and hit 55 goals in 105 games before being sent to AC Milan last summer.
The Argentinian hit just eight goals in 22 games before his loan was cancelled, and he reunited with his ex-Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, scoring five times in 18 games.
Higuain is now back with Juve, but he will surely be available this summer, and it’s now believed that West Ham have registered their interest in luring Higuain back to London.
In fact, Juve want £36million for Higuain, meaning they’re willing to sell for around half of what they paid three years ago, which may give West Ham a chance – even if his wages would likely be a problem.
Higuain is a surprise target, as it seemed that West Ham were going for a younger striker in Maxi Gomez, and Higuain simply doesn’t possess the same athleticism as the Uruguayan at this stage in his career.
Boss Manuel Pellegrini does though know Higuain well having managed him at Real Madrid in the 2009-10 season, in which Higuain scored 29 times – his best goal return for Real.
Pellegrini may believe that he can get the best out of Higuain, but his age means a £36million deal would be a major risk, even with that history on his side.
