Report: West Ham keen on West Brom’s Salomon Rondon; will cost £16.5m

West Ham United are keen on West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon, but their Premier League rivals may also join them.

According to a report from The Telegraph, West Ham are eyeing a move for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon ahead of the summer transfer window, when the Venezuelan is likely to be available for £16.5 million.

The Baggies appear destined to end the campaign having been relegated to the Championship. Darren Moore’s side are currently 10 points off safety with only five games left and 15 points still up for grabs.

Unsurprisingly, a number of the fans feel that relegation is a formality. And with that, it appears that a number of players are set to be on their way, with The Telegraph reporting that Rondon is likely to be one of those who departs The Hawthorns.

The Telegraph adds that the Irons are keen on the 28-year-old, and if West Brom are relegated, a clause in Rondon’s deal will be activated that will make him available for £16.5 million. The Daily Mail meanwhile, have speculated that Tottenham Hotspur may also be tempted into the race in the future given their striker situation.

Decent target for the Irons?

It does look as if David Moyes will need to strengthen his striker options this summer after a year which has seen some of the Hammers attackers struggle for form and fitness.

The interest in Rondon is likely to divide supporters however. While he does receive a lot of praise from the Baggies fans for his work-rate, he is not the most prolific forward in the league by any means.

He is yet to reach double figures for goals in a league season since arriving in England. And given that West Brom have not always been battling to stay in the league since he arrived, that tally of 23 goals in 103 league games does not look overly impressive at all.
