According to a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo, West Ham have joined West Brom in bidding for Sporting midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia, who is set to cost around £26.5 million (€30 million).

Battaglia has featured in 17 Primeira Liga games this season, making eight starts for Sporting and scoring once and providing one assist from holding midfield.

O Jogo reports that both the Baggies and the Irons have now bid to try and bring the 26-year-old to the Premier League, but both offers have fallen short of Sporting’s valuation of the player that they only signed from Braga last year.

O Jogo adds that the Argentinian is keen to play in England, but he will not look to force through a move away from Estadio Jose Alvalade. However, the report adds that Sporting could consider dropping their valuation down to a fraction over £22 million (€25 million).

With both sides battling against relegation this season, it will be interesting to see whether they decide to meet Sporting’s demands over Battaglia during this window given his lack of experience in the Premier League.

It must be said that he has impressed when he has been given a chance in holding midfield this season and featured regularly during their Champions League group-stage campaign, so perhaps West Ham and West Brom may be tempted to follow up their previous bids.
