According to Tuttosport, West Ham have entered the race to sign Weston McKennie, who’s also a target for Aston Villa and Everton.
What’s the story?
Well, after Juventus signed Manuel Locatelli, there has been plenty of talk surrounding McKennie’s future.
It was said that the 22-year-old is facing tactical difficulties with Massimiliano Allegri, who has replaced Andrea Pirlo at the helm.
Now, Tuttosport believe West Ham, Everton and Aston Villa are in negotiations to sign the 24-cap USA international.
In fact, Dean Smith’s side are believed to have already submitted a bid.
Tottenham are also keen, and have tried to offer Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele in swap deals, but to no avail just yet.
Juventus want €30m (£25.7m) for their No.14, who they signed from Schalke 04 for £15.8m.
What would West Ham, Everton or Aston Villa get in Weston McKennie?
Whoever signs the American will be getting a fantastic player.
McKennie has been likened to Chile icon Arturo Vidal, as well as ex-Liverpool maestro Gini Wijnaldum.
Both are tireless workhorses in midfield, which provides some insight into what type of player the terrier-like Juventus midfielder is.
USA teammate Reggie Cannon described him as a ‘leader’ who will always be the first to run after the ball once it’s been lost.
On another occasion, ex-Huddersfield boss David Wagner – who managed McKennie at Schalke 04 – said he had the potential to become one of the best players in the Bundesliga.
By all accounts, the Texas-born midfielder is a gem.
If West Ham, Everton or Aston Villa are presented with a realistic chance to sign him, they must jump at it.
