If Ruben Semedo leaves Sporting Lisbon this summer then a Premier League switch seems inevitable, with Portuguese publication Record reporting two more English clubs have entered the race.

Previous interest from Newcastle United, Southampton and Everton was known – with the latter now having seemingly cooled their pursuit – but now it is said Crystal Palace and West Ham United have joined the hunt.

Sporting are keen to renew Semedo’s contract, but while improved wages are expected the defender is said to be tempted by a move to England – with the Chronicle reporting Newcastle are closing in.

While the 23-year-old has a £38m release clause as part of his current deal, a previous report from Record suggested that the Portuguese club would be willing to let him leave for £13m.

This is because some have been unimpressed by Semedo’s recent form, with Sporting fans unveiling a banner saying ‘Ruben Semedo, bon voyage’ during the final match of the season against Chaves.

Yet despite this supposed drop in form, the performances of the Portugal Under-21 international has done enough to alert several Premier League sides and now a battle seems to be on for who will sign him.
