According to L’Equipe, West Ham United are interested in signing Saint-Etienne midfielder Yann M’Vila this summer.

The Hammers have just faded in the last couple of games, and that means that a place in Europe next season is looking increasingly unlikely ahead of the summer transfer window.

Midfield is one area of concern for West Ham, with Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez enduring injury problems, whilst Pedro Obiang could be on the move this summer.

With that in mind, L’Equipe report that West Ham are now interested in signing Saint-Etienne star Yann M’Vila, in the hope of bringing him back to the Premier League.

M’Vila, 28, has impressed for Saint-Etienne this season, racking up 33 appearances in all competitions whilst doing enough to attract West Ham’s interest.

Some may well remember M’Vila’s time at Sunderland. He became a favourite of Sam Allardyce there – a former West Ham boss himself – and even wanted him at Crystal Palace according to The Mirror.

The Frenchman was once compared to Claude Makelele, Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure by former boss Frederic Antonetti, as quoted by Le Parisien in 2011, but he hasn’t quite lived up to that hype.

However, he’s still a combative and athletic midfielder with ability on the ball, and he could be a welcome addition to the West Ham side, especially as a replacement for Obiang, if they can convince Saint-Etienne to sell, given that his deal still has three years to run.
