According to Calcio Mercato, West Ham United are interested in signing Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose at the end of the season.

The Hammers have been searching for a top striker since the end of last season, as summer addition Simone Zaza left the club in January following a miserable loan spell, whilst Jonathan Calleri has only found the net once since joining on loan from Deportivo Maldonado.

Whilst Andy Carroll has impressed in recent weeks, he still suffers from continued injury problems, and West Ham should be in the market for another striker during this summer’s transfer window.

Now, Calcio Mercato report that West Ham are now looking at Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose, who has starred in Spanish football this season.

The 25-year-old striker has hit nine goals in 20 La Liga appearances and two goals in four Copa del Rey games, as he continues to impress in Spain having 20 goals in his previous two seasons with Las Palmas and Real Zaragoza.

A powerful striker with great aerial ability, predatory instincts inside the box and impressive link-up play, Jose is the prototypical centre forward who could lead the line for the Hammers.

Formerly of Real Madrid, Jose is a former Brazil youth international, and appears to be pushing for a call-up to the senior side off the back of his superb record with Real Sociedad this season.

It’s unclear just how much Real Sociedad would want for their star striker, but AS reported last summer that they were paying just €5million (£4.25million), with a buyout clause of around €40million (£34million), meaning West Ham may have to dig deep to sign Jose this summer.
