Report: West Ham hope Pellegrini arrival will tempt Lanzini to stay

West Ham United are reportedly on the verge of confirming Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, West Ham are optimistic that appointing Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager will convince the players who are considering their futures at the club, including Manuel Lanzini, to stay at the London Stadium.

The Mirror reports that the Hammers are set to confirm the former Manchester City boss as their new manager this week and are ready to back the Chilean in the transfer market after a mixed campaign which saw David Moyes lead the side to a 13th place finish in the Premier League.

And it appears that the Irons hierarchy are not only hopeful that Pellegrini’s arrival will make them a more attractive prospect to potential targets, but it will also help the club convince some of their players to stick around.

The Mirror suggests that the likes of Lanzini and Javier Hernandez may be considering their futures with the Hammers, and the club hope landing Pellegrini will convince anyone thinking of leaving to stay.

While Hernandez did not manage to establish himself as a regular in the side, he did score eight goals to finish as the side’s second highest goalscorer in the Premier League and that could prove to be an incredibly encouraging sign if there is more to come from the Mexican.

Meanwhile, keeping Lanzini – who earns £70,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – would be a massive boost for West Ham as he is often the side’s most dangerous player. He scored five league goals and provided six assists this past season and it would be little surprise if Pellegrini wanted to make him a focal point of the side even if he gets a number of his targets this summer.
