Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe looks dejected
According to Sky Sports, West Ham United remain interested in signing Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, and look set to make a new move to land him this summer.
The Hammers have struggled in attack this season, with Jonathan Calleri and Simone Zaza failing to provide goals, whilst Andy Carroll has again struggled with injuries.
It’s imperative that Slaven Bilic – or whoever is in charge of West Ham next season – finds a new striker this summer, and it seems that the club will again turn to an old face for goals.
Sky Sports report that West Ham retain a strong interest in signing Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, having failed with a move to bring him back to the club during the January transfer window.
Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe looks dejected
Defoe, 34, made his name with West Ham as a youngster, hitting 41 goals in 105 games before moving on to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, having handed in a transfer request less than 24 hours after West Ham had been relegated from the Premier League.
Those actions have left a sour taste in the mouths of many West Ham fans, but the club seem determined to lure the England international back to East London this summer, with Defoe free to leave Sunderland following their relegation.
England’s Jermain Defoe celebrates scoring
Defoe has hit 14 goals this season, but he has failed to find the net in each of his last ten Premier League games, with the lack of service at Sunderland seeing him struggle – though West Ham shouldn’t be put off, given how much Defoe impressed earlier this season.
Another of Defoe’s former clubs are interested, with Bournemouth lining up a move, but West Ham will hope that Defoe wants to right the wrongs of his exit more than 13 years ago.
