West Ham United have suffered a blow, as their bid for Nikola Milenkovic has been turned down, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

West Ham submitted a £20 million offer for Milenkovic yesterday, as reported by the Daily Mail, but they have quickly received a response.

Fiorentina have reportedly told West Ham that their bid falls short of their valuation of the Serbian, as David Moyes’s side’s struggles to bring in a central defender continue.

West Ham have been hunting for a new centre-half for much of the summer so far, but they have just hit obstacle after obstacle.

The Hammers made sizeable offers to Burnley for James Tarkowski, but couldn’t get a deal over the line, and now seem to be moving on the alternative targets.

Milenkovic could have been an appealing addition, as the 22-year-old has been one of the standout defenders in Serie A and also impressed at international level for Serbia.

But with Fiorentina seemingly wanting big money for their star defender, it now remains to be seen whether West Ham will make a repeat bid before deadline day.
