According to Calcio Atalanta, West Ham have enquired about Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is wanted by Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, if you were wondering, Calcio Atalanta are reporting the news as Atalanta are also interested in the 22-year-old.

As are Manchester United.

In fact, the Italian news outlet are claiming that both West Ham and the Red Devils have phoned to ask about Tomiyasu.

However, if The Athletic are to be trusted, the 23-cap Japan international has told Atalanta he wants to join Tottenham.

Tomiyasu – who Bologna paid €9 million for (£7 million) – has been the subject of a £12.9 million bid from Spurs.

However, Tottenham’s Director of Football Fabio Paratici has been told to up the offer to £14.6 million, with add-ons.

West Ham could convince Tomiyasu

Admittedly, hearing that Tomiyasu wants to join Tottenham isn’t good news for West Ham.

However, all the reasons why he might want that particular move can also be applied to West Ham.

In fact, there are more benefits to joining the Irons.

Tomiyasu might want Tottenham because they’re a London based club, who can offer European football in the form of the Conference League.

Having said that, David Moyes can also offer the defender a home in London, and also a more prestigious competition in the Europa League.

In our view, if West Ham really do want Tomiyasu, they can easily make themselves seem more attractive than Tottenham in this case.

In truth, the east Londoners are more attractive than the north Londoners at this point in time.
