West Ham United have made their first move in the race to sign Mario Gotze, who is a free agent.
The Daily Express say that West Ham have been in contact with the attacking midfielder to make an enquiry, as they look to seal a deal.
If West Ham were to land Gotze it would be an impressive piece of business, as the German international is a player of immense talent.
Even Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is a big fan, and has previously called him a player with ‘massive quality’ to BeinSports.
On a free transfer Gotze looks to be one of the best value for money options available this summer, even if his recent injury record is questionable.

West Ham have previously signed injury prone players to little success, but Gotze has the ability to make the deal a risk worth taking.
West Ham could do with an injection of creativity in their squad, and if the Hammers could get Gotze back to his best then they would surely have one of the finest playmakers in the whole of the Premier League to call upon next season.
