West Ham United have reportedly decided against a move for Andrea Belotti.
According to The Guardian, West Ham United have decided against pushing through a move for Torino striker Andrea Belotti – because he’s valued at €70million (£63million).
The Hammers are undoubtedly in the market for a couple of strikers, having allowed Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll to leave the club this summer.
Jordan Hugill and Javier Hernandez are likely to go as well, meaning there could be a full-scale overhaul of Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking options – but with limited money to spend.
It’s now believed that West Ham were interested in Torino ace Belotti, but have completely backed away from a deal after being quoted a staggering €70million (£63million) asking price.
That leaves Maxi Gomez as West Ham’s focus, with Salomon Rondon set to go elsewhere too, but Gomez over Belotti would be a smart move anyway.
Belotti, 25, hit 25 league goals in the 2016-17 season, but has dipped since then, scoring 25 league goals in the last two seasons combined, with interesting in his signature waning.
Gomez is younger, and fits the bill better as a lone front man for Pellegrini to build around, whilst he’s actually scored more goals in the last two seasons, hitting 30 for Celta Vigo.
Gomez will be cheaper too, so West Ham’s decision looks to be a smart one – but if they sign Gomez, they’ll have little cash left to build the rest of their attack.
