West Ham are desperate to add a central midfielder to their squad this month.
Sky Sports has claimed that West Ham United have had a £15million bid rejected for Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney as David Moyes continually looks to add a central midfielder to his squad.
The Hammers have been reportedly linked with the likes of Harry Arter, Joe Allen, Mohamed Elneny, Jonjo Shelvey and other central midfielders this month, and even missed out on Francis Coquelin who let Arsenal to join Valencia.
However, Moyes is yet to add a new midfielder to his squad and has faced a further setback with Championship side Fulham rejecting the Hammers’ advances for captain Cairney.
Cairney, 27, rose to prominence last season at Craven Cottage after scoring 13 goals and turning provider a further 12 times during his 51 league and cup appearances, but he has failed to mirror that form this season.
Making 16 appearances this time around, the one-time Scotland international has found the back of the net just once and only managed three assists for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side.
However, his 2016-17 form has not been forgotten by fellow countryman Moyes, who is keen to bring the attacking midfielder to West Ham with Manuel Lanzini sidelined for a month due to a hamstring problem.
Cairney has more than three years remaining on his current deal and with five days to go in the January transfer window, it is unclear whether the Hammers will return with an improved bid for the Championship star.
