West Ham United reportedly attempted to land Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama on loan this summer.

According to a report from the Daily Express, West Ham failed with a loan bid for Victor Wanyama during the latter stages of the summer transfer window despite the Tottenham man wanting a secure a move away.
Wanyama has become a peripheral figure within Mauricio Pochettino’s squad as injuries have left the Kenya international tumbling down the pecking order in recent times. He made fewer league appearances across the last two campaigns combined than he had during his first season following his switch from Southampton.
The Daily Express reports that the £18 million-rated star wants to leave Spurs this summer and could end up heading to Belgium with Bruges weighing up making a bid for the 28-year-old.
But it appears that he could have been plying his trade with another Premier League side had events played out differently, with the Express claiming that the Hammers attempted to sign the former Celtic man on loan, but failed in their pursuit.

The report notes that Wanyama’s £65,000-a-week wages could prove to be a stumbling block as he looks to seal a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
If Wanyama stayed fit, he would have arguably had the potential to be a brilliant signing for Manuel Pellegrini’s men, particularly if they could have secured a loan deal for the midfielder.

He had previously looked an inspired addition to Spurs’ squad before he fell out of favour. But some Hammers fans may be quite relieved that their side do appear to have missed out on getting him through the London Stadium door.
With Wanyama reportedly unhappy, it would be a real boost for Tottenham if they could offload him in some capacity before the transfer window closes elsewhere. But time is running out.
