West Ham United were said to be interested in the 26-year-old.
According to Thursday’s print edition of Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (09/02/2017) West Ham United failed in an attempt to bring Benfica player Andre Almeida to the London Stadium in January.
The Hammers were looking for reinforcements in the recent transfer window and Almeida – who can play left-back, right-back and holding midfield – would have ticked a number of boxes.

It is being claimed that West Ham wanted to sign him on loan with the option of a permanent deal at the end of the campaign, but that Benfica rebuffed their approach.
Almeida has played 20 times for Benfica this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in the process, and he has a total of 152 appearances for the Portuguese club under his belt.

With a contract that expires in 2019, Almeida may be a player West Ham make another move for in the future, but for now their manager Slaven Bilic has to make do with what he already has.

Given West Ham’s improved form in recent months, that is unlikely to be an issue, but it will be interesting to see if next summer’s transfer business is more impressive than the last.
