West Ham United have reportedly failed with a move for Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata.

According to the Bergamo Post, Atalanta have rejected an approach from West Ham United to sign striker Duvan Zapata for €40million (£35million).

Atalanta swooped to sign Zapata from Sampdoria over the summer, paying €12million up front before having to pay an additional €14million in 2020.

That’s a huge amount of money for Atalanta, but so far, their massive outlay on the Colombian star is money well spent.

Zapata hit four goals in the 5-0 win over Frosinone yesterday, meaning he has now smashed 14 goals in his last eight games, with 17 for the season in all competitions.

The 27-year-old’s blistering form is making headlines, and has seemingly tempted West Ham into a move, with Bergamo Post claiming a €40million (£35million) approach has been rejected.

West Ham have been looking to big-money strikers in case Marko Arnautovic leaves for China this month, and Zapata has seemingly emerged as a target.

The 6ft 2in front man has superb strength and a decent turn of pace, potentially giving West Ham a focal point to hold the ball up and even run in behind.

Yet with £35million seemingly snubbed, West Ham may now be better off looking elsewhere, given that Zapata will turn 28 in a matter of months, and West Ham won’t want to overpay for a player of that age.
