West Ham United and Everton are plotting to make a summer move for West Bromwich Albion star Jonny Evans.
Alan Pardew’s men currently find themselves in a very bleak position in the Premier League. The Baggies are now seven points off safety with 10 games to go and blew a brilliant chance to get some momentum going last weekend as Huddersfield – the team immediately above the bottom three at the time – left The Hawthorns with the three points.
The Mirror reports that relegation for West Brom would mean that Evans would have a clause activated in his contract that would allow him to leave the club for just £3 million at the end of the season. Unsurprisingly, that has attracted plenty of attention.
Jonny be good for £3m
Despite West Brom’s hugely disappointing season, West Ham or Everton or Leicester will surely feel that it would be a huge bargain if they manage to land the defender for just £3 million.
The Sun reported in January that the Baggies wanted £35 million for the defender, and if they pull off a miraculous escape and keep themselves in the division, it seems much more likely that West Brom will demand an amount much closer to their January asking price than the £3 million.
Evans brings with him a wealth of experience and the 30-year-old is still young enough to contribute for a few more years – maybe even longer if he boasts the longevity of current teammate Gareth McAuley – so spending £3 million on him this summer if West Brom go down is surely a no-brainer for the likes of the Hammers and Toffees.
