West Ham United are reportedly leading the Premier League charge to sign Derby County midfielder Luke Thomas.

Thomas joined the Rams in 2016 and has predominantly spent most his spell at Pride Park in the under-23 ranks, most recently lining up against the Hammers’ own youth side in a game that Derby would win 1-0.

While Thomas would not score in the victory, he has enjoyed a fantastic season. He has scored six goals in Premier League 2 and has been able to make two substitute appearances for Gary Rowett’s first-team in the Championship.
And it appears that he may have made a big impression on the Hammers in their recent meeting, as Gloucestershire Live is now reporting that the teenager is being targeted by the Irons.

The reports adds that several Premier League clubs are having a look at the youngster – who can also play up front – but it is West Ham that are currently sat at the front of the queue.
Exciting addition for the Hammers?
While it has been a difficult season for West Ham, there is no question that there could be very exciting times ahead, with Declan Rice amongst the youngsters to have been given a first-team chance this term, while several others appear to have the potential to join him in the near future.
Thomas is clearly an extremely bright talent. Toni Martinez is the only West Ham U23 to have outscored the Derby ace this season and his exciting display in Monday’s win hints that he is certainly one to keep an eye on in the near future.
