West Ham United are eyeing Watford striker Troy Deeney should their Daniel Sturridge pursuit fail, according to the Sun – which also reports that West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United are ‘preparing bids’ for Deeney.

It claims West Ham have turned to Sturridge – who is said to be available on loan ahead of a £25 million permanent transfer from Liverpool in the summer – after injuries to Andy Carroll, Marko Arnuatovic and Diafra Sakho.

Should that deal fall through, however, the Hammers could turn to Deeney, according to the Sun.

The newspaper adds David Moyes’ side could also face competition from Stoke City and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as West Brom and Newcastle.

Deeney, who has scored 25 goals in 90 Premier League games for Watford, was dropped by previous Hornets manager Marco Silva, and has been unable to train under new boss Javi Gracia – who admits he is in the dark over his captain’s future – due to illness.
