Jeunes Footeux report West Ham United want to sign Bayern Munich-owned striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer. The Dutch ace is currently on loan at Anderlecht – where he has impressed under Vincent Kompany.
Zirkzee, 20, joined Bayern from Feyenoord aged just 15. He has since managed just 17 senior appearances for the German champions, scoring four goals. It has seen him go on loan, spending time at Parma last term.
But he struggled to have an impact – managing just four appearances in the second half of 20-21. This season, that has changed, shining under Kompany at Anderlecht. He has 22 goal involvements in 34 league and cup outings.
Netting 14 times, Zirkzee has also laid on eight assists – helping Anderlecht to a healthy, but unimpressive fourth position. A move this summer for the striker is expected – but whether that is to Anderlecht, remains to be seen.
The report claims West Ham want to sign a striker to provide both cover and competition for Michail Antonio. Zirkzee has been identified, and Bayern are said to want a fee between £8.5million and £10million.
West Ham eye Zirkzee: Perfect for Hammers, will Bayern sell?
Zirkzee is the ideal signing. West Ham need a striker that is open to sitting on the bench here and there – and at 20, Zirkzee can hardly expect to start straight away. The Bayern ace is available for a small-ish figure, too.
He also fits West Ham’s style. Standing at 6ft 3in, he is much like in Antonio in that he has a bit of pace, power, strength and aerial ability. His eight assists shows he can bring others into play. Kompany loves him, recently branding him an “artist”.
