According to AS, West Ham have made contact with River Plate over the availability of Gonzalo Montiel, along with Roma, Villarreal and Lyon.

The Spanish news outlet add that River Plate are requesting €9 million (£8 million) for the right-back, with just days remaining of the transfer window.

Now, in our view, that seems very cheap for a player who is just 24 years of age, and one who also has six caps for Argentina.

It also seems like a price that West Ham would be willing to pay.

Why do we say that? Well, back in August, Goal Argentina said that the Irons bid €7.5 million (£6.6 million) for Montiel’s services.

However, the bid was rejected, as the González Catán-born defender had a €20 million (£17.7 million) release clause in his contract.

Now, for whatever reason, River Plate are requesting just £8 million, as aforesaid.

Seeing as West Ham bid just £1.4 million less than that sum, we see no reason why the east Londoners wouldn’t return with an improved offer.

The only reason as to why they might not do that, however, is the presence of Vladimir Coufal.

The Hammers signed the Czech Republic international for £5.4 million in October, weeks after Goal Argentina‘s report.

In that respect, perhaps David Moyes is now happy with his right-back options, although AS do mention that West Ham are still interested.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on over the next few days.
