West Ham United won’t be signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic this month.
According to the London Evening Standard, West Ham United sources have ruled out a move to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a replacement for Marko Arnautovic.
The Hammers came into the window looking to sign a striker, but that was even before any notion of Arnautovic leaving was mentioned.
Arnautovic has been a talismanic figure for West Ham over the last year, and has notched seven goals and two assists in the Premier League this season.
The Sun report that Arnautovic is now expected to seal a big-money move to Chinese side Shanghai SIPG this week, leaving West Ham with a huge hole to fill in attack.
With LA Galaxy’s season over, some West Ham fans have been dreaming of a deal to take 37-year-old Ibrahimovic on loan to fill the gap left by Arnautovic.
However, the London Evening Standard report that West Ham sources are ruling out a move for Ibrahimovic, meaning those dreams have been dashed quickly.
The Swede hit 22 goals in 27 MLS games last season, and may fancy one last go at the Premier League after his last spell with Manchester United was cut short.
Arnautovic and Ibrahimovic have long been compared, but it seems that Ibrahimovic won’t be replacing the Austrian in West Ham’s attack this season.
