West Ham United are reportedly considering a move for the in-form La Liga striker.

According to a report from Sky Sports, West Ham could make a move for Maxi Gomez should they sell Marko Arnautovic this month.

Arnautovic has been heavily linked with the London Stadium exit, with Sky Sports reporting that the Austrian wishes to leave the Hammers during this window following a £35 million bid from Shanghai SIPG.

The offer has reportedly been rejected, and the club are yet to receive an improved bid.

But should Arnautovic – who, the report notes, has impressed the club with his attitude on the training ground despite his desire to leave – end up leaving, Sky Sports reports that they could move for Gomez.

The report adds that West Ham discussed a deal for the 22-year-old with Celta Vigo in the summer only to be put off by his asking price. But his price has apparently increased following a superb first-half of the season.

Gomez has scored nine goals and provided five assists in La Liga this term. Sky Sports suggests that his release clause is thought to be worth around £45 million – and that is not a fee that the Irons are prepared to go to to get a deal done.

If West Ham did sign Gomez, he would arguably be a very exciting addition. He offers plenty of power and physicality, and clearly knows how to find the back of the net.

If Arnautovic moves on, he is surely a player that the Hammers must consider breaking the bank for.
