West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini reportedly has his eye on Argentinian forward Martin Benitez.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Wycombe Wanderers and West Ham United at Adams Park on July 14, 2018 in High Wycombe, England.

According to a report from ESPN’s live transfer blog (23/07; 14:30), West Ham are weighing up a potential move for Argentinian forward Martin Benitez as Manuel Pellegrini looks to add further depth to his attacking options.

It has been a brilliant summer for the Hammers thus far. The club have wasted little time getting a number of signings through the London Stadium door, with Felipe Anderson and Jack Wilshere amongst those tasked with ensuring that the Irons find themselves in nothing like the same trouble they faced for the majority of last season.

And it appears that Pellegrini is still not done with the summer signings. ESPN’s live transfer blog (23/07; 14:30) reports that the Hammers are interested in Independiente winger Benitez.

According to Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the Argentine side, so perhaps the Hammers will feel that there may be scope for them to land Benitez for a bargain fee.

It appears to be something of a gamble however. Benitez’s record for a winger is encouraging, but not outstanding, with 15 goals and 10 assists coming during his career at the highest level.

But perhaps Pellegrini feels that with the signings the club have already brought in in similar areas of the pitch, Benitez may be a player worth rolling the dice for this summer.
