West Ham United are considering launching an improved bid for Toulouse striker Martin Braithwaite this month to boost their attacking options but could face competition from around Europe, according to Sky Sports.
The Hammers had an £8.5 million offer for the Denmark international rejected by the Ligue 1 club last month, the report claims.
Having finally got rid of flop Simone Zaza, the Irons are looking for attacking additions this month who will complement the talents of revitalised Andy Carroll up top.
They only signed Zaza after failing with several ambitious approaches for top strikers including Carlos Bacca, and their plight this season means they may have to turn to more modest targets.
Braithwaite is not a household name in the UK, but he has impressed for Ligue 1 side Toulouse since his move to France in 2013, scoring 35 goals in 124 appearances for the club.
After hitting 13 last season, the 25-year-old, who has 14 caps for Denmark, has already netted eight times in 18 games in all competitions at club level this term.
Sky Sports‘ report claims that Toulouse are willing to listen to offers for their star man as they stand to make a considerable profit on the player they signed for just £2 million.
The French side are holding out for at least £10 million, but that is not an impossible sum for West Ham, who shelled out £20 million for Andre Ayew in the summer.
However, Braithwaite’s form is thought to have attracted interest from other clubs around Europe, and so West Ham may have to brace themselves for a fight if they want to get their man.
