West Ham are interested in signing Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, according to The Star.

Slimani signed for Leicester City from Sporting Lisbon for £29.7 million but has failed to live up to expectations.

The Star report he could be among several high profile players sold on by Leicester this summer as the Foxes look to shake up their squad one year on from their title win.

Slimani was intended to be a striker who helped Leicester really kick on but his presence clouded Claudio Ranieri’s team selection and ostracised squad players Shinji Okazaki and Leonardo Ulloa.

The 28-year-old has made only 12 league starts this season, 19 total appearances in the division, scoring seven goals.

His return hasn’t been awful, it is just that for the fee paid, Leicester wanted more.

He netted one Champions League goal in five games and was selected for only 13 minutes over two legs of their quarter-final against Atletico Madrid.

Slimani could be a good signing for West Ham if they can get him at a knockdown price and he is motivated to prove a point to Leicester.

Last season he netted 31 goals in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon including 27 in 33 Primeira Liga games.

Slimani’s Algeria are also attempting to qualify for the World Cup and playing regular football will be important to the international striker.
