West Ham United may miss out on top striker target Maxi Gomez.

According to the Daily Star, Maxi Gomez prefers a move to Valencia over West Ham United, but the Hammers are confident of signing Eibar midfielder Joan Jordan.
West Ham have added David Martin, Roberto and Pablo Fornals in a busy start to the transfer window, but they must now find a striker having offloaded Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez.
Celta Vigo hitman Gomez has become a top target after 30 goals in 73 games for the La Liga side, and West Ham have now had a bid of around £25million rejected.
The Guardian reported over the weekend that West Ham feared missing out on Gomez to Valencia, and it’s now thought that he prefers a move to Valencia because they can offer him Champions League football.
That’s a major blow, as West Ham have been tracking Gomez for around a year now. The Uruguayan, 22, is a brute of a centre forward and could have brought new firepower to Manuel Pellegrini’s ageing attack, but unless they can tempt Gomez into a U-turn, it seems they may well miss out.
Aleksandar Mitrovic and Salomon Rondon feature as alternative targets, with both players fitting a similar mould as a physical centre forward, and they should come a little cheaper than Gomez.

One piece of good news from the report is that West Ham are confident of signing Eibar midfielder Joan Jordan, with a £13million bid in for the Spaniard despite landing Fornals already.
Jordan can at least play as a holding midfielder, but possesses great ability on the ball and from set pieces, potentially arriving as competition for Declan Rice and Mark Noble in the two holding roles in Pellegrini’s side without breaking the bank.
